# decision tools

> Asks a decision model typed questions about the same state, each answered independently.

Asks a decision model typed questions about the same state, each answered independently. The result maps each question name to its answer.

These fields go alongside the [common fields](/tools/reference/tool-file#common-fields), with `kind: decision`.

## Fields

**state** `any`

The data to judge, as a template tree over `{{input.*}}`. Omitted, the call's `state` input is used.

**questions** `object`

Question name to question. Each has a `type` (`likelihood`, `choice` or `score`), `instructions`, and `criteria` for that type.

**model** `string` (default: decider)

A decision model role. A chat role fails the call.

**caller\_questions** `boolean` (default: false)

Take `questions` from the call's input instead.

**caller\_model** `boolean` (default: false)

Let the call's `model` input pick the role.
