# graph plan new

> Scaffold an empty plan file to build up with `set` and `step add`

Writes a plan with no steps, which won't validate until you add one. An edit is refused only when it adds a validation problem, so you can build the plan up one step at a time.

## Arguments

**IDENTIFIER** `string` *required*

Tool-name-safe identifier; also the file name

## Options

**--name** `string`

Display name (defaults to the identifier)

Format: `NAME`.

**--description** `string`

What the plan does — the agent's routing signal

Format: `DESCRIPTION`.

**--output** `string`

Write here instead of \<plans dir>/\<identifier>.yaml

Format: `PATH`.

**--json** `boolean`

Print a JSON envelope instead of text

## Global options

**-v, --verbose** `integer`

Increase log verbosity (-v info, -vv debug, -vvv trace)

```bash Usage theme={null}
graph plan new [OPTIONS] <IDENTIFIER>
```

```bash Example theme={null}
graph plan new weekly_changes --description "Summarize what changed in this repo this week"
```
