# graph_plan_step_add

> Adds a step to a plan, at the end or before or after another step.

## Behavior

* Refused if the step references anything other than `input` or an earlier step.
* Mirrors `graph plan step add`.

## Input

**after** `string`

Insert after this step id instead of appending.

**before** `string`

Insert before this step id instead of appending.

**id** `string` *required*

Step id — how later steps reference it as \{\{\<id>.field}}.

**input** `object` *required*

The step's input object. Leaf strings may be templates over earlier results, e.g. \{\{E1.field}} or \{\{input.x}}.

**reasoning** `string`

Why this step exists, carried into the plan for readers.

**target** `string` *required*

A plan identifier (as in `plan list`) or a path to a plan YAML file.

**tool** `string` *required*

A tool name from graph\_tools\_list, or a control step: exit, agent, ask, route, filter, map, reduce.
